Isobel heads up the Life Sciences and Chemistry team here at IP Asset, leading a growing team of other patent attorneys and trainees. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in the profession, having gained experience working at two different large firms of patent attorneys in London before settling in IP Asset’s Oxford Office.
Isobel has a strong academic background, having received a First Class Masters degree in Natural Sciences from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. Areas studied included Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Maths alongside Chemistry. Isobel ultimately ended up completing her fourth year’s Master project in Environmental Chemistry, studying the impact of greenhouse gases on the Earth’s atmosphere.
Isobel also spent some of her time while at University at Addenbrooke’s hospital, completing a research project on the interaction of various ligands with receptors in human tissues.
Not satisfied with the Sciences alone, Isobel then went on to spend a Summer at Heidelberg University perfecting her German language skills, to complement the French and German she’d studied at school, and the Spanish language lessons taken at University. To this day, Isobel continues to be fascinated by languages, and has now set her sights on Russian as the next accomplishment!
Isobel provides commercially focused, pragmatic and relevant IP advice, which enables her clients to manage their portfolios in an effective and cost-effective manner. Isobel has worked for clients of all sizes, from large corporates to smaller UK based firms, as well as acting for private inventors and investors. Isobel is particularly enjoying building a local client-base out of IP Asset’s Oxford office. Her work often involves drafting and filing patent applications, patent prosecution, and providing freedom to operate opinions and due diligence. She also has extensive experience of representing clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. She has procured Supplementary Protection Certificates on several medically authorised products in the UK.
Isobel has been involved in a diverse range of technologies in the life sciences field including drug delivery, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and protein, nucleic acid and polysaccharide chemistry. She also has extensive experience of chemical fields including printing ink compositions, polymer chemistry and laundry and dishwasher detergents.
At IP Asset Isobel works closely alongside fellow Director John Gregory in relation to the running of the firm, taking specific responsibility for HR.
